The LED is an essential component of Sonic Mega 8K S, as it provides the UV light to cure the resin and create your 3D models. However, the LED may experience wear and tear over time and eventually become burnt out.
Replacing the LED is therefore necessary to ensure that the printer is functioning optimally and producing large-volume prints consistently. In this article, we'll guide you through the process of replacing the LED in your Sonic Mega 8K S.
1. Removing the Old LED Array
Power down and prepare
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord
- Loosen the 12 screws on the front case and place it in front of the printer
Be careful when sliding off the cover to avoid damaging any cables.
- Disconnect the touch panel cable and USB cable from the mainboard and remove the front case
- Spray alcohol on any glue adhered to the connector to soften it for easy removal
- Remove the rear case by loosening the 10 screws (see below pic)
- Slide off and remove the rear case with doors and put it aside
Disconnect the cables
- Detach the motor’s connector
- Disconnect the sensor’s connector and LCD ribbon cable
- Loosen the 8 screws on the printer's platform and remove the top half of the printer
- Set the top half of the printer aside
Remove the old LED array
- Unscrew and remove the LED lens and LED frame
- Unscrew the LED array
- Loosen the screws of the terminal and remove the red & black wires of the LED board
- Remove the LED array
2. Installing the New LED Array
Install the new LED array
- Place a new LED array onto the metal plate
- Connect the red & black wires to their original position on the terminal and secure them
- Screw in the new LED array, LED frame, and LED lens
Reconnect the cables
- Put the top half of the printer in place and secure it
- Connect the LCD cable and sensor connector to the mainboard
- Attach the motor connector to the motor
- Install the rear case in place
- Connect the touch panel cable and USB cable to their respective ports
Reassemble the cases and verify the LED’s functionality
- Tighten the screws and reinstall the front case and the rear case
- Run an LCD Test and check if the new LED works normally
Remember to handle the components with care during reinstallation and to tighten all screws and cables securely.
