Firmware downloads and release notes

Firmware serves as the backbone of any device, dictating its functionality and performance. Regular firmware updates are crucial for ensuring optimal operation and addressing potential issues. Here's how you can keep your Phrozen printer up-to-date and operating at its best:   

 

1. Importance of Firmware Updates:

Firmware is like the brain of your printer, controlling its hardware components and ensuring smooth operation. By staying current with firmware updates, you can unlock new features, improve print quality, and enhance overall performance.

 

2. Firmware Update Instructions:

Each Phrozen printer model may require a different process for firmware updates. Follow these step-by-step instructions tailored to your specific printer model:

After successfully installing the firmware update, please be sure to re-calibrate the Z axis on your printer

Arco FDM

Before updating, please read the important notes in the upper section, then proceed with the firmware update process in the lower section.

Arco FDM Pre-Update Important Notes:

  1. During the firmware upgrade process, please avoid actions such as inserting/removing the USB or powering off the device to prevent update failure.
  2. Before updating, please check the Arco firmware version. If the version is lower than V1.7.7, you must first upgrade to V1.7.7, then proceed to upgrade to V1.7.9. Versions such as V1.4.5 or V1.6.3 cannot be directly upgraded to V1.7.9.
  3. After completing the V1.7.7 firmware update, please ensure the Arco firmware version displayed on the information page is V1.7.7. Then, format the USB drive before proceeding with the V1.7.9 firmware update.
  4. Starting from V1.7.7, the port number for the web backend connection has been modified. Please append: 8808” to the IP address when accessing the backend webpage.
  5. The firmware versions for the Arco model were released in the following sequence: V1.4.5, V1.6.3, V1.7.7, V1.7.9, and V1.8.5.
  6. To use the Chroma Kit, the firmware must be upgraded to V1.7.9- Please make sure the Chroma kit is fully installed and connected to the Arco and powered on before proceeding with the upgrade.

Arco FDM firmware update steps:

  1. Prepare USB:
    • Format the USB to FAT32 and set the allocation unit size to 4096 bytes.
    • Ensure the USB drive has at least 8GB or preferably 16GB USB 2.0.
  2. Download Firmware:
    • Download the firmware file to your PC and unzip the file.
  3. Save Firmware to USB:

    • Save the "phrozen_dev folder" from the unzipped Arco_FW_V185 folder to the root folder of the USB.

      The folder **phrozen_dev** inside the USB drive must remain intact.
Do not unzip or extract its contents further!
  4. Execute Update:
    • Insert the USB into the printer (wait for 5-6 seconds until you see the USB icon appear in the top right corner, indicating the printer has successfully detected the USB).
    • Go to the Settings menu on the printer and select Update.
  5. Complete Update:
    • Once the Update Completed notification appears, remove the USB.
    • Restart the printer manually. The printer will take a few moments to restart.
  6. Verify Update:
    • After the printer restarts, go to the information page and check if the firmware version has been successfully updated.

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mighty Revo 16K．16K Upgrade Kit

Before updating,  please go to the main screen and tap ” ”→”PRINTER INFO” to check the current version. 1. FPGA Version Check: If the last part of "Resolution" is V51.20, it means the FPGA is already the latest version, please skip Step 3. 2. app.bin Version Check: If the last part of the "Firmware Version" shows PRZV2.03, it means the app.bin is already the latest version, please skip Step 4. Important Note: If both app.bin and .RBF are already the latest versions, no manual update is required. Please skip Steps 3 and 4.

The firmware update procedure for Sonic Mighty Revo 14K is as follows:

[STEP 1]
  1. Format the USB drive to FAT32 and set the allocation unit size to 2048 bytes (requires a 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB USB 2.0).
  2. Download the Sonic Mighty Revo 16K firmware from the list below and extract it.

  3. Copy the three files from the extracted folder to the root directory of the USB drive.
[STEP 2]
  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Insert the USB drive, then power it on. The system will automatically update the .bin file.
[STEP 3]
  1. Tap the "" icon to enter the print page, then tap the USB icon.
  2. Select the .RBF file and update.
  3. Wait until the update is completed, then keep the printer powered on.
[STEP 4]
  1. If you need to install the automatic pump & fill feature, tap the "" icon to enter the print page, then tap the USB icon.
  2. Select the app.bin file and update.
  3. Wait until the update is completed, and follow the instructions to power off and restart the machine.
[STEP 5]
  1. Once the update is completed, remove the USB drive.
  2. Restart the printer, you can skip this step of setting your printer.
[STEP 6]
  1. Reinsert the USB drive, and delete the firmware files from the USB drive.
  2. Safely remove the USB drive from the machine.

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mighty Revo 14K

Before updating,  please go to the main screen and tap ” ”→”PRINTER INFO” to check the current version. 1. FPGA Version Check: If the end of the "Resolution" column shows V43.04, it means the FPGA is already the latest version, please skip Step 3. 2. app.bin Version Check: If the end of the "Firmware Version" column shows PRZV2.03, it means the app.bin is already the latest version, please skip Step 4. Important: If both app.bin and .RBF are already the latest versions, there is no need to perform the manual update. Please skip Steps 3 and 4.

Firmware Update Procedure

The firmware update procedure for Sonic Mighty Revo 14K is as follows:

[STEP 1]
  1. Format the USB drive to FAT32 and set the allocation unit size to 2048 bytes (requires a 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB USB 2.0).
  2. Download the Sonic Mighty Revo 14K firmware from the list below and extract it.

  3. Copy the three files from the extracted folder to the root directory of the USB drive.
[STEP 2]
  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Insert the USB drive, then power it on. The system will automatically update the .bin file.
[STEP 3]
  1. Tap the "" icon to enter the print page, then tap the USB icon.

Sonic Mega 8K V2

Before updating Sonic Mega 8K V2,  please go to the main screen and tap ”INFO”→”PRINTER INFO” to check the current firmware version. For version lower than V1.1.4/V32.21/V25.06.19, please follow the "Firmware Update Procedure". For version V1.1.4/V32.21/ V24.02.28，skip to the "app.bin Update Procedure" to update Pump & Fill System (V24.02.28 → V25.06.19).

Firmware Update Procedure

The firmware update for Sonic Mighty Revo 14K & Sonic Mega 8K V2 can be done in 5 steps:
[STEP 1] - Save the firmware files to a formatted USB drive
[STEP 2] - Turn OFF the printer and plug in the USB Drive
[STEP 3] - Turn the printer on and it shall auto-update the 'ChituUpgrade.bin" file
[STEP 4] - If the RBF file is out of date, press the file "xxxxx.RBF" on the touch panel
[STEP 5] - Optional: If the Pump & Fill feature is not installed, you can manually run the app.bin file and the update will start automatically
[STEP 6] - Once completed, remove the USB and restart the printer again.
[STEP 7] - Make sure to delete all the firmware files from the USB.

[STEP 1]
  1. Format the USB drive to FAT32 and set the allocation unit size to 2048 bytes (requires a 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB USB 2.0).
  2. Download the firmware package to your computer and extract it.

  3. Copy the extracted files to the root directory of the USB drive.
[STEP 2]
  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Insert the USB drive into the machine and power it on.
[STEP 3]
  1. When the printer powers on, it will automatically update the .bin file.
  2. Wait until the update is completed, then keep the printer powered on.
[STEP 4]
  1. After the installation is successful, open the root directory of your USB drive.
  2. In the folder, check the file named xxxxx.RBF to confirm the RBF update file version, and compare it with the FPGA version of the machine. If the RBF update file version is higher than the FPGA version of the machine, click “Update.”
  3. Wait until the update is completed, and ensure the printer remains powered on.
[STEP 5]
  1. If your machine has the automatic pump & fill enabled, please re-enter the root directory after installation is completed.
  2. Click the app.bin file.
  3. Wait until the update is completed, and ensure the printer remains powered on.
[STEP 6]
  1. After the update is completed, remove the USB.
  2. Restart the printer, you can skip this step of setting your printer.
[STEP 7]
  1. Reinsert the USB drive, and delete the firmware files from the USB drive.
  2. Safely remove the USB drive from the machine.

app.bin Update Procedure

[STEP 1] - Save the app.bin file (extracted from the firmware package) onto a formatted USB drive.
[STEP 2] - On the main screen, select PRINT → app.bin → GO to start the update.
[STEP 3] - Once the update is complete, remove the USB drive and manually restart the machine.
[STEP 4] - On the main screen, go to “INFO” → “PRINTER INFO” and confirm that the firmware version is now V1.1.4 / V32.21 / V25.06.19, which indicates that app.bin has been successfully updated to the latest version.

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mega 8K S (With Pump & Fill Unit)

Before updating, please go to the main screen and tap ”INFO”→”PRINTER INFO” to check the current firmware version.
- For version lower than V1.1.6/V32.21/V25.06.19, please follow the "Firmware Update Procedure".
- For version V1.1.6/V32.21/ V24.02.28，skip to the "app.bin Update Procedure" to update Pump & Fill System (V24.02.28 → V25.06.19).

The firmware update for Sonic Mega 8K S can be done in 5 steps:
[STEP 1] - Save the firmware files to a formatted USB drive
[STEP 2] - Press the file "FPGA_xxxx.RBF" on the touch panel to update
[STEP 3] - Press the file "app.bin" on the touch panel to update
[STEP 4] - Reboot the printer, and the rest of the update will start automatically
[STEP 5] - Press the file "Phrozen_Mega8K S.gcode" on the touch panel to update

[STEP 1]
  1. Format a USB to FAT32 and set the allocation to 2048/4096 bytes
    ( USB 2.0 with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB is required)
  2. Download the firmware file to your PC and unzip the .rar file
  3. Save the four files in the root folder of the USB.
  4. Turn on your printer, wait until the interface is running, then plug the USB drive into the printer
[STEP 2]
  1. On the touch panel's homepage, tap Print > FPGA_xxxx.RBF > Go
  2. Waiting for a progress bar to finish
  3. "FPGA update" is completed > OK
[STEP 3]
  1. On the touch panel's homepage, tap Print > app.bin > Go
  2. Waiting for a progress bar to finish.
  3. "app.bin" is completed > OK
[STEP 4]
  1. Keep the USB plugged in and restart the printer
  2. "Phrozen System Update" is displayed on the touch panel, and wait for a progress bar to finish
[STEP 5]
  1. On the touch panel's homepage, tap Print > Mega8K S.gcode > Go
  2. "Mega8K S.gcode" is completed > OK
  3. Remove the USB drive
  4. Done

[STEP 1] - Save the app.bin file (extracted from the firmware package) onto a formatted USB drive.
[STEP 2] - On the main screen, select PRINT → app.bin → GO to start the update.
[STEP 3] - Once the update is complete, remove the USB drive and manually restart the machine.
[STEP 4] - On the main screen, go to “INFO” → “PRINTER INFO” and confirm that the firmware version is now V1.1.6 / V32.21 / V25.06.19, which indicates that app.bin has been successfully updated to the latest version.

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

The firmware update for Sonic Mighty 8K．12K Upgrade Kit can be done in 3 steps:
[STEP 1] - Save the unzipped firmware files to a formatted USB drive
[STEP 2] - Press the file "FPGA_vxxxx.RBF" on the touch panel to update
[STEP 3] - Reboot the printer, and the rest of the update will start automatically

[STEP 1]
  1. Format a USB to FAT32 and set the allocation to 2048/4096 bytes
    ( USB 2.0 with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB is required)
  2. Download the firmware file to your PC and unzip the .rar file
  3. Save the files "FPGA_vxxxx.RBF" & "ChituUpgrade.bin" in the root folder of USB.
  4. Turn on your printer, wait until the interface is running, then plug the USB drive into the printer
[STEP 2]
  1. On the touch panel's homepage, tap Print > USB > FPGA_vxxxx.RBF > Update > Update
  2. "phrozen FPGA Update" is displayed on the touch panel and waits for a progress bar to finish
  3. "FPGA update" is completed > OK
[STEP 3]
  1. Keep the USB plugging and restart the printer
  2. "phrozen System Update" is displayed on the touch panel, and wait for a progress bar to finish
  3. The printer reboots, and you may set up your printer or skip the steps
  4. Select USB File, and delete the firmware files
  5. Remove the USB drive
  6. Done

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mini 8K S．Sonic Mini 8K．Sonic Mega 8K．Sonic Mighty 4K．Sonic Mini 4K．Sonic 4K

  1. Format a USB to FAT32 and set the allocation to 2048 bytes

  2. Select a firmware file for your model from the table below, download and unzip the file
  3. Save all files in the root folder of the formatted USB
  4. Turn off your printer, then plug the USB drive into your printer
  5. Turn on the printer
  6. The firmware will update automatically
  7. The printer beeps a few times when it finishes
  8. Remove the USB drive
  9. Done

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mini (For Old Touch Panel Version)

  1. Format a USB to FAT32 and set the allocation to 2048/4096 bytes

  2. Select a firmware file for your model from the table below, download and unzip the file
  3. Save all files in the root folder of the formatted USB
  4. Turn off your printer, then plug the USB drive into your printer
  5. Turn on the printer
    a. On the touch panel's homepage, tap PRINT
    b. Tap "2-ALFPGA_P202_CTB_TWP_STANDBY_NEW_2.CBD"
    c. Tap GO and wait for a progress bar to finish > CONFIRM
    d. Tap "update.TWP" > GO > CONFIRM 
  6. Unplug the USB drive
  7. Done

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Sonic Mini (For New Touch Panel Version)

  1. Format a USB to FAT32 and set the allocation to 2048/4096 bytes
    ( USB 2.0 with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB is suggested)
  2. Select a firmware file for your model from the table below, download and unzip the file
  3. Copy all unzipped files onto the USB drive’s root page.
  4. Insert the USB drive into the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer.
  6. The printer will automatically update files.
  7. Once the update is complete, remove the USB drive and reboot the printer.
  8. Done

When complete, format the USB drive to prevent the update to other firmware and causing printer failure.

Transform Series．Shuffle Series． Make

  1. Download the following software
  2. Format the SD card with SD Formatter. (Watch tutorial video)
  3. Select a firmware file for your model from the table below, download and unzip the file
  4. Write the IMG file into your formatted SD card with Disk Imager
  5. Insert the SD card into your printer
  6. Turn on the printer
  7. Done

Make sure you download the firmware update specifically for your printer model. Installing inappropriate firmware may render the printer unusable.
