After test printing with the Sonic Mega 8K, it’s time for some exclusive tips and tricks to slice your 3D models! Let’s get right into it:
1. Key Notes
Open Chitubox slicer
- Open CHITUBOX Slicer Software to initiate the slicing process for STL files before printing.
- Ensure that you are using CHITUBOX Slicer Software version 1.9.0 or above for optimal performance.
- Alternatively, if you prefer, you can use any other slicer software of your choice.
Steps to Prepare and Slice STL Files for Sonic Mega 8K Printing
- Import your file(s) into the slicer software.
- Place the imported files inside the blue square, which simulates the size of Sonic Mega 8K’s building plate.
- Before initiating the printing process, ensure you have an ample amount of resin prepared.
- We recommend preparing 3 bottles of Aqua-Gray 8K resin, especially for large-scale models printed with the Sonic Mega 8K, as they tend to be on the heavier side (approximately 1 KG in weight).
- Utilize the Phrozen XP Finder to identify the optimal resin parameters. For more information, click [here](insert link).
2. Tips to Slicing Your 3D Models
Hollow the 3D Model
- Reduce the weight of the model by hollowing it. This not only conserves resin but also allows for more efficient use in subsequent prints.
Add Holes to the Bottom
- Enhance drainage and ventilation by adding holes to the bottom of the 3D model. Consider placing holes on the sides or inconspicuous areas that won't affect the overall appearance of the print.
Tilt the Model and Add Supports
- Tilt the model and place supports on its back to avoid affecting the front appearance. Minimize supports on the front part.
- Carefully inspect the 3D model and consider adding more supports to ensure proper weight distribution and stability.
Add a Cube-shaped Raft
- When adding a raft, choose the "Cube" shape. Cube-shaped rafts facilitate even resin flow through Sonic Mega 8K’s perforated building plate, potentially speeding up the printing process.
3. Final Steps for Printing
After slicing, send the file to the Sonic Mega 8K via Network Sending or save it directly onto your USB drive. Connect the USB drive to the Sonic Mega 8K to initiate the printing process.
If using the same resin as you did when conducting the test print, make sure to use the same resin parameters as well. When printing larger models, please note that you’ll need to increase the exposure time for best results. For instance, if the model is 3 times larger than its original size, you’ll have to increase exposure time for the bottom layer in 3 second increments, while the normal layer exposure time will have to be increased by 0.3 second increments.
After you’re done, it’s time to move onto here.
