The LED is where the 3D printer projects UV light through the LCD and cures the resin. The LED may need to be replaced after some time. In the following article, we have divided the post into 2 parts: removing the old LED and installing the new LED.
This article uses Sonic Mini 4K as an example. If you're using another printer, you can still use this as a reference.
1. Removing the Old LED
Initial Preparations
- Remove the plastic cover, the vat, and the building plate.
Z-Axis Adjustment
- Make sure the building plate on the Z-axis is retracted completely. If it isn’t, click TOOLS, and then click MANUAL, click on 10mm several times.
Power Off and Unplug
- Turn off the 3D printer and unplug the power cable.
Accessing the LED Board
- Flip the 3D printer and remove the printer’s bottom with an m3 Allen wrench which is included in the toolbox.
Disconnecting the LED Cable
- Remove the LED cable from the mainboard.
Removing the LED Board
- Use an m2.5 Allen wrench and turn counter-clockwise to loosen the screws holding the LED lens and the LED light guide beneath it.
- Remove the LED board from the metal plate.
Please DO NOT remove the linear guide from the rail as it may cause great damage to the Z-rod.
2. Installing the new LED
Installing the New LED Board
- Place the LED board in place and tighten the screws holding the LED board.
- Reattach the LED light guide and the LED Lens.
- Reconnect the LED cable to the mainboard.
Securing the Bottom
- Place the bottom back onto the 3D printer and tighten the screws.
- Turn the LCD 3D printer upright.
Verify the functionality of new LED
- Plug in the power cable and turn on the 3D printer.
- Perform the LCD test to ensure that the LED is functioning properly.
Once you replace the LED, if the issue still persists please reach out to our customer support team for further assistance. In the meantime, please also provide us with photos of both the LED connection and the LED Test result.
