When to Replace FEP Film

FEP and PFA (nFEP) films may start to have signs of wear and tear after printing for a while. Once it has major signs of wear and tear, dents, deformation, or piercings, it may be time to replace it. There are a few conditions that indicate that the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film requires replacing, these signs include:

  1. Severe dents, bumps, and scratches.
  2. Too cloudy.
  3. Loss of tension.
  4. Pierced.
To check for holes in the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film, pour some alcohol into the resin vat and place a paper towel underneath it. If you notice any wet spots on the paper towel, it may indicate the presence of holes in the film. This simple test can help you identify potential issues with the film and take necessary measures to address them.

Inspecting the FEP Film

When inspecting the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film, we suggest holding it against the light to check for defects. If the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film has minor scratches or slight loss of tension, it may still seem functional. You can perform a test print and check to see if it produces any errors while printing.

Try increasing the lift height by 1 mm when encountering a slight loss of tension.

Normal FEP Film vs. Damaged FEP Film

A Normal FEP or PFA (nFEP) film should produce prints with a smooth surface while a damaged FEP or PFA (nFEP) film's prints will have scratches across its surface.
