In many operational steps, it's often necessary to remove the extruder front cover, but reinstalling it can be tricky due to the position of the cutter.
To help users avoid installation issues, we’ve prepared the following guide!
For the correct removal process of the front extruder cover, please follow these steps before removing the black front cover:
Heat up the nozzle according to the filament type.
Retract the filament using the Retract function under Tools → Extruder.
Once the filament has been fully retracted, it is safe to remove the black front extruder cover.
Remove the Cutter:
Use your left thumb to press down on the cutter shaft center to prevent the spring from ejecting the push rod.
With your right hand, gently pull the push rod outward.
Installing the Cutter and Push Rod:
- Insert the short L-shaped end of the torsion spring into the groove on the left side of the cutter shaft.
- Place the cutter into the push rod (with the side containing two holes facing upward), and push the cutter until it touches the push rod.
- Insert the cutter push rod center into the shaft, and place the long L-shaped end of the torsion spring into the cutter push rod.
- Push the cutter push rod inward. Once it reaches the inner position aligned with the extruder, press it downward to ensure the screw fits into the groove on the right side of the cutter shaft.
- Use a hex wrench to adjust the cutter to a horizontal position.
- Align the gap in the extruder front cover with the front edge of the cutter blade.
- Close the extruder front cover (make sure the cutter is properly seated on the platform).
- Gently press the cutter push rod to confirm that it moves smoothly without resistance — this indicates successful installation.
- Use a 2.5mm hex wrench to tighten the three screws connecting the extruder front cover.
- Reconnect the magnetic front cover and cable to the extruder.
Important Notes:
If not properly aligned, you may encounter:
- Difficulty reinstalling
- The cutter snapping down or falling off
Rest assured, the cutter can be reinstalled smoothly! If you feel any resistance, it likely means it’s misaligned — please try again.
