[Sonic Mega 8K] Replacing the Power Supply

Power Supply is an important component of the Sonic Mega 8K printer. When it is broken down or becomes mal-functional, a replacement is necessary. This article will guide you through common steps of installing a new power supply for Sonic Mega 8K.

1. Removing the Old Power Supply

Power down and Prepare

• Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
• Loosen the 8 screws on the front case and place it in front of the printer

Be careful when sliding off the cover to avoid damaging any cables.

• Remove the rear case by loosening the 10 screws.

• Slide off and remove the rear case with doors and put it aside.

Disconnect the cables

• Detach the motor’s connector.

• Disconnect the sensor’s connector and LCD ribbon cable.

Remove the top half

• Loosen the 8 screws on the printer's platform and remove the top half of the printer.
• Set the top half of the printer aside.

Remove the old power supply

• Take a photo of the old power supply and the cables connected to it (you can refer to this when installing the new power supply).
• Loosen the screws located around the old power supply frame. 
• Remove the old power supply.
• Use a slotted screwdriver to disconnect the cables attached to the old power supply.

2. Installing the New Power Supply

Install the power supply

• Put the new power supply in its place.
• Reconnect all the wires in the same order (refer to the photo you have taken in the last step).
• Retighten the screws around the new power supply board to lock it in place.

Reassemble the printer and verify the new power supply’s functionality

• Connect the LCD cable and sensor connector to the mainboard.
• Attach the motor connector to the motor.
• Tighten the screws and reinstall the rear case in place.
• Connect the touch panel cable and USB cable to their respective ports.
• Tighten the screws and reinstall the front case.
• Perform an LCD test and Z-axis calibration to check if the new power supply works normally.

Remember to handle the components with care during re-installation and to tighten all screws and cables securely.
