The above video is for reference replacement using Sonic Mega 8K Resin VAT.
PFA (nFEP) film is an extremely important accessory of resin 3D printing. Once your PFA (nFEP) film has been dented, deformed, and/or pierced, it must be replaced in order to print successfully. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps of replacing the PFA (nFEP) film on the Sonic Mega 8K V2.
1. Before We Begin
Before you start with this tutorial, keep the following points in mind:
Compatibility with Other Printers: This tutorial serves as a reference not only for your Sonic Mini 4K but also for Sonic Mighty 4K and other resin 3D printers using a similar resin vat.
Cleaning Recommendations: To safeguard your 3D printer and minimize print failures, use 95% sanitizing alcohol to thoroughly remove any residual resin on the PFA (nFEP) film.
Understanding PFA (nFEP) Film: The PFA (nFEP) film is a specially treated FEP film known for its smoother and delicate surface.
Its unique material reduces suction force compared to traditional FEP film during printing, contributing to a higher success rate in resin printing when the nFEP film is installed.

2. Remove the old PFA (nFEP) Film
Remove the Resin Vat
- Take out the resin vat from the 3D printer.
Clean the Resin Vat
- Utilize 95% sanitizing alcohol to clean the entire resin vat.
- Pay attention to clearing the junction between the screws thoroughly.
Residual resin in screw junctions can damage the resin vat and lead to increased print failures.
Loosen and Remove Screws
- Use the short side of the wrench to loosen and remove all screws on the long side of the wrench.
- There are a total of 32 screws that need removal.
For stubborn screws, apply alcohol to the screw joints and wait for about 15 minutes before attempting to loosen them again.
Remove Metal Frame
- Even after removing the screws, the metal frame may still be firmly attached to the resin vat.
- Use a wrench to pry up the metal frame and detach it from the resin vat.
Turn Over Metal Frame and Remove Screws
- Flip over the metal frame and remove all screws on this side.
Loosen and Remove Screws (Again)
- Use the short side of the wrench to loosen and remove all screws on the long side of the wrench.
- There are another 32 screws that need to be removed in total.
Disassemble Metal Frame
- After removing all 64 screws, the metal frame can be taken apart.
- Remove the old PFA (nFEP) film located between the metal pieces.
3. Install the new PFA (nFEP) Film
Clean Residual Resin
- Use 95% sanitizing alcohol to clean up any residual resin in the junctions of the metal frames and the resin vat.
Place the New PFA (nFEP) Film
- Place one of the metal frames.
- Then, place the new PFA (nFEP) film.
- Lastly, place the other metal frame.
- Ensure the right side is facing up, as shown in the picture.
Prevent Strain on the Film
- Place the building plate of Sonic Mega 8K on top of the PFA (nFEP) film.
- This prevents the film from becoming overly strained, reducing the risk of printing failures.
Pierce and Tighten
- Use a wrench to pierce through the PFA (nFEP) film before tightening the screws.
Diagonal Tightening
- Use the short screws to tighten the screws diagonally.
Sequence for Tightening Screws
- Lock 8 corner screws.
- Lock 4 screws on the sides.
- Tighten the rest of the screws diagonally.
4. Install the New PFA (nFEP) Film onto the Resin Vat
Install the New PFA (nFEP) Film
- Turn the resin vat upside down.
- Place the new PFA (nFEP) film with the metal frame attached.
- Ensure the correct side is facing up.
Diagonal Tightening
- Use the long screws to tighten the screws diagonally.
Sequence for Tightening Screws
- Lock all 4 corner screws.
- Lock 8 screws on the sides.
- Tighten the rest of the screws diagonally.
Double-Check Tightness
- Verify that all the screws are properly tightened.
- Cut off any excess PFA (nFEP) film during this step.
- Lastly, ensure that the PFA (nFEP) film is slightly tensile.
