LCD is a critical component of resin-based 3D printers. The LCD screen is responsible for displaying the layers of the 3D model that will be printed. The light from the LCD screen passes through a bottom layer of a resin vat, curing the resin in a precise pattern that matches the 3D model's shape.
To ensure that the Sonic Mighty 12K's LCD screen is working correctly, you can perform an LCD test. This test checks if the lighting and masking functions of the printer are working correctly. The following steps will guide you on how to run the LCD test on your Sonic Mighty 12K.
DO NOT look directly at the UV light to prevent eye discomfort.
1. Running LCD Test
Power up and Prepare
- Remove the resin vat from the printer.
- Plug in the power cord and switch on the printer.
Light Up Entire LCD Screen
- On the touch panel, click on Settings⚙️> System > Hardware Testing > LCD TEST > LIGHT UP ENTIRE LCD SCREEN.
- The LCD screen should be lit up completely and there are no black spots.
Blackened LCD Screen
- On the touch panel, click on Settings⚙️> System > Hardware Testing > LCD TEST > BLACKENED LCD SCREEN.
- The light on the LCD screen should be covered up completely and there are no light spots.
LCD Grid
- On the touch panel, click on Settings⚙️> System > Hardware Testing > LCD TEST > LCD GRID.
- The grid lines should fill the entire LCD screen and match the grid image on the touch screen.
2. Performing a Dry Print
If you're experiencing issues such as flickering or glitches, a dry print can be a helpful troubleshooting tool. A dry print is a test print that you run without placing the resin vat and building plate. This allows you to check whether the LCD is flickering or functioning correctly.
Power up and Prepare
- Plug in the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Remove the resin vat and building plate from the printer.
Perform the dry run test
- Save a sliced file onto a USB drive and then plug it into the USB port on your printer.
- Click on the file from the touch panel to start the print.
Confirm proper functionality
- Check the LCD screen to see if the image displayed on it matches the one on the touch panel.
LCD test and Dry run test can help you to identify any issues with the LCD and ensure that it is functioning correctly.
After making sure everything is functioning correctly on your LCD 3D printer, you’re all set to proceed to the next step.
