If you're experiencing issues with the touch panel on your Sonic Mega 8K S, such as unresponsiveness or erratic behavior, don't worry, there are some steps you can take to see if the issue is simply a loose or poorly connected. This can happen if the pins of the cable have become loose or shifted out of place.

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of reseating the cable and updating the latest firmware to avoid common touch panel-related issues and keep your printer running smoothly.

 

Reconnect the touch panel cable

⚠️Note:
  1. Always disconnect the power source before disassembling any electrical equipment.
  2. If it is necessary to handle equipment that is still plugged in, ensure your hands are dry and consider wearing insulation gloves, protective clothing, and shoes with insulated soles if possible.

 

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Use an Allen Wrench (Size 2) to loosen the 12 screws and open the front case.
  3. Reconnect the white cable between the mainboard and the touch panel, making sure the blue mark is facing upwards.
  4. Power on the printer.
  5. Verify if the problem has been resolved.

 

Updating the Firmware

Reflashing the firmware can solve touch panel issues caused by outdated software conflicts

By doing so, you can make sure the printer's software is fully compatible with the touch panel, which can help to prevent issues such as unresponsiveness or erratic behavior.

It is important to ensure that you download the latest version’s firmware that is designed for your specific printer model. Installing incorrect firmware could potentially make e printer inoperable.

 

  1. Download the latest firmware for your Sonic Mega 8K S from Phrozen Help Center.
  2. Prepare a USB drive (4GB, 8GB, or 16GB) that's USB 2.0 compatible.
  3. Format the USB drive as FAT32 with an allocation unit size of 2048 or 4096 bytes.
  4. Unzip the downloaded file.
  5. Copy the unzipped files to the USB drive's root.
  6. Insert the USB into the printer and power it on.
  7. Press the USB drive button.
  8. Select and start the "FPGA" update file.
  9. Wait for the "FPGA" update to finish, then reboot the printer with the USB still inserted.
  10. The printer will automatically update the .bin file.
  11. Press the USB drive button.
  12. Select and start the "G-code" update file.
  13. Wait for the "FPGA" update to finish, then remove the USB.
  14. Done. Your update is complete.

 

To avoid potential damage to your printer, always ensure that you download and install the latest firmware version specifically designed for your model. Installing incorrect firmware may render the printer inoperable.
