Once you have finished printing out 3D models from your Sonic Mighty 4K LCD 3D printer, your prints need to be cleaned and post-processed thoroughly. In this article, we'll demonstrate how to thoroughly clean your 3D models:
1. Removing the Model from Build Plate
- Loosen the building plate knob and remove it gently.
- Wipe the top and sides of the building plate with tissue paper to avoid resin drips
- Place the building plate on a firm and level surface (a few inches away from your printer)
- Use the metal scraper to remove the model from the building plate
2. Washing the Model
Without Ultrasonic Cleaner/Phrozen Washing Station
- Prepare 2 basins of 95% alcohol, Phrozen Wash, or water (in case you use water-washable resin)
- Rinse your models until it’s thoroughly cleaned
- Gently rub off the uncured resin or use a soft brush to clean intricate parts
Do not use a toothbrush as it may leave scratch marks on the surface of the 3D printed object.
With Ultrasonic Cleaner/Phrozen Washing Station
- Fill the Ultrasonic Cleaner/Phrozen Washing Station with 95% alcohol (or water if you use water-washable resin)
- Run the machine for a maximum of 30 seconds each time
- Turn off the machine
- Check if the model has been cleaned thoroughly
- Repeat the washing process if necessary
Avoid soaking your models in the cleaning liquid for more than 30 seconds at a time, as prolonged exposure could soften the resin and eventually damage the model.
3. Drying the Model
Without a Phrozen Curing Station
- Make sure there isn’t any uncured resin left on the model
- Air-dry the model in a shaded area for 30-60 minutes or use an airgun to speed up the drying process
With a Phrozen Curing Station
- Make sure there isn’t any uncured resin left on the model
- Place the model inside the Phrozen Curing Station.
- Turn on the dry mode (for drying only) or dry+cure mode (for both drying and curing)
4. Post-Curing
It’s important to make sure that your 3D printed model has completely dried before you cure it, as a wet model tends to crack when exposed to UV lights. You can choose to use Phrozen Curing Station to complete your post-curing process or just lay your models in direct sunlight.
Post-curing with Phrozen Curing Station
- Place the model onto the turntable plate of the curing station
- Turn on the curing station
- Set the timer at 30 mins (for the test model printed with Aqua-Gray 8K)
Post-curing under sunlight
- Put the model under direct sunlight
- Turn the model once in a while so that every side is perfectly cured
- Collect the model when the model has been fully cured
Post-curing under direct sunlight can cause discolorations or unevenly-cured models since the direction of the sun changes throughout the day.
Congratulations on completing the first print in your 3D printing journey!
