If you notice that your Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer’s LCD is dimming or not illuminating, it may be due to issues with the LEDs. This article will guide you through the process of checking your device's LED to determine whether the LEDs are properly connected or have burned out.
1. Visual Check the LED Array
A visual check of the LED array can help identify any faulty LEDs.
Power up and prepare
- Plug in the power cord and switch on the printer.
- Place a few A4 papers on the LCD screen to make it easier to notice any faulty LEDs.
Run vat cleaning function and confirm proper functionality
- On the touch panel, click TOOLS > VAT CLEANING.
- Check the LED array for any flickering or LEDs not illuminating (see below examples).
DO NOT look directly at the UV light to prevent eye discomfort.
2. Reconnect the LED Power Wires
Power down and prepare
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Loosen the 8 flathead screws on the front cover using an H2 hex key.
- Pull the front case slowly to avoid damaging the cables inside.
- Disconnect the front USB extension cable and the touch panel cable from the mainboard.
- Remove the front case and put it aside.
Remove the rear cover
- Loosen the 8 flathead screws on the back cover using the H2 hex key.
If you have a filling tube installed, remove the Pump & FIll silicone tube from the back of the printer.
- Loosen the 2 flathead screws on the top cover using the H5 hex key.
- Remove the back cover completely from the printer.
Remove the top plate of the printer
- Loosen the 8 screws on the printer’s platform.
- Unplug the LCD cable from the mainboard.
- Disconnect the 2 cables connecting to the USB boards.
- Unplug the blue and red terminals on the Auto-feeder board.
- Slowly lift the top plate up and lay it down.
Reconnect the wires
- Reconnect the LED power wires on the mainboard using a slotted screwdriver.
- Locate the SSR board.
- Reconnect all the wires connecting to the SSR board.
Reinstall the front case
- Reconnect the front USB extension cable and the touch panel cable to the mainboard.
- Reinstall the front case securely.
Turn on the printer and run an LCD test to confirm proper functionality.
- Plug in the power cord and switch on the printer.
- On the touch panel, click TOOLS, then click LCD TEST or VAT CLEANING.
- Check if the LED is lighting up.
