All Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K S build plates are calibrated perfectly before being shipped out, which means that you can start printing straight out of the box! However, in case you ever need to re-level Sonic Mega 8K S’s build plate, this article will guide you through the steps of calibrating your Sonic Mega 8K S.
If your 3D model(s) have failed to attach to the build plate, try increasing the bottom layer exposure time.
1. Get Prepared
- Remove the resin vat, make sure there are no objects present on the printer’s platform
- Remove and clean the build platewith 95% sanitizing alcohol
We recommend spraying 95% sanitizing alcohol and waiting for roughly 15 minutes so that the alcohol is able to soak any leftover resin more thoroughly.
2. Perform Z-calibration
Install the build plate
- Attach the build plateto the printer and align it with the pins
- Tighten the screw to fix the build plate
- Make sure the build plateis not able to shift after tightening
Slightly Loosen the Screws on the build plate
- Slightly loosen the four larger screws and four smaller screws on the build plate
Loosen the Smaller Screws on the build plate
- Use an Allen wrench to loosen the four smaller screws on the sides of the build platein an upwards motion
- Continue to do so until the screws do not protrude anymore
- Use one hand to push the build plateup. Both sides of the build plate should be tightly connected
- Loosen the four larger screws gradually and ensure that they are adjusted to the same height angle
Be careful not to over-loosen the screws, as this can result in the build plate falling off and potentially damaging the LCD screen.
Prepare one A4 paper
- Cut an A4 paper into two equal halves
- Place the papers on the LCD screen
Please use 3 sheets of A4 size paper if you are using ACF Film. Furthermore if you are having any compression issues in Z Axis, feel free to check out our post here.
Set up
- On the touch panel, click on TOOLS → Z-CALIB → START to begin
- Wait for 1-2 minutes until the build platetouches the LCD screen
Adjust the build plate
- Once the build platehas touched the LCD screen, stabilize the build plate by holding both the upper and lower platforms with hands
- After calibration, slightly tug on the paper to make sure that the friction force between all four corners are the same.
Tighten the Smaller Screws on the build plate
- Gradually tighten the four smaller screws until they make contact with the lower platform at a lower angle
- Use one hand to rotate the screws, while another hand tugs on the A4 paper
Avoid over-tightening the screws, as this can cause the Z-axis calibration to become imprecise.
Tighten the Larger Screws on the build plate
- Tighten the four larger screws after the four smaller screws have been tightened
- Tightening the screws in two rounds: use the long side of the Allen wrench to tighten the larger screws, then use the short side to tighten the screws one more time
Failure to tighten may result in the build platecalibration becoming inaccurate over time with repeated use.
Double-Check Z-axis Calibration
- The friction force between the four corners should be the same as before. Tug on all four corners of the A4 paper to check the pressure intensity.
Final step
- Click on the Up arrow on your touch panel to move the build plateup by 30mm
- Remove the build plateand the A4 paper
- Reattach the build plateto the printer
- Z-calibration has been completed and the printer is ready for use
