[Sonic Mighty 4K] Replacing the Z-axis

The Z-axis is an essential component that enables the printer to move the building plate up and down, allowing for precise layering during the printing process. Over time, the Z-axis may become worn or damaged, leading to issues such as layer shifting or uneven prints. 

In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to replace the Z-axis on your Sonic Mighty 4K, ensuring that your printer is operating at its best and producing high-quality prints.

Removing the Old Z-axis

1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable
2. Remove the plastic cover, building plate, and resin vat
3. Unscrew and remove the metal block located on top

4. Loosen the 4 screws on the T-plate

5. Turn the lead screw counterclockwise to take the T-plate out
6. When the T-plate almost reaches the top, press the anti-backlash nut at the same time to prevent it from popping out

7. Secure the sliding guides with tape to prevent them from moving
8. Lay the printer down on a flat surface
9. Loosen the 6 screws on the bottom case, and then open the case

10. Unplug the LED connector and remove the bottom case

11. Unplug the both ends of the motor connector (as shown below)

12. Loosen the 4 screws on the platform that is attached to the motor

13. Take the Z-axis out of the printer

Installing the New Z-axis

1. Put the new Z-axis in position inside the printer
2. Tighten the 4 screws on the platform that is attached to the motor
3. Attach the LED connector to the mainboard
4. Attach the motor connector to the motor
5. Reinstall the bottom case securely and turn the printer upright
6. Remove the tape for the sliding guide
7. Put the T-plate and turn the new lead screw clockwise to secure it in place
8. Tighten the 4 screws and secure the T-plate to the sliding guides
9. Install the metal block located on top
10. Install the building plate, resin vat, and UV cover
