In order to produce high-quality 3D prints, Z-axis calibration, or leveling the building plate, is essential for every 3D printer. Here are the steps you need to follow in order to calibrate your resin 3D printer.
We also have tutorials on calibrating the Z-axis for specific Phrozen 3D printers such as the Sonic Mini 4K, Sonic Mighty 4K, Sonic Mega 8K, and Sonic Mini.
Step 1: Remove the resin vat. Make sure to remove any objects present on the printer’s LCD.
Step 2: Prepare a piece of A4 paper and lay it flat on the LCD. This piece of paper will be used for leveling the building plate.
Step 3: Use a wrench to loosen all 4 screws present on the sides of the building plate. After loosening it, make sure to double-check to see if the plate is loose and movable.

Step 4: Click on the Z CALIB button on your printer’s touch panel to begin the process. Wait for 1-2 minutes as the building platform extends to touch the A4 paper laying flat on the LCD.

Step 5: Once the plate has touched down, press down tightly on the sides of the building plate and adjust it to make sure it is lying tight against the sheet of paper.
Step 6: Tighten all 4 screws on the sides of the building plate, with the other hand still pressing the building plate down.
Step 7: Click DONE on the touch screen and wait for the building plate to retract.
Step 8: Once the plate has retracted, remove the A4 paper, and you’re ready to begin your 3D printing journey!
